Vacation Nightmare: Wisconsin Woman Claims Bed Bug Infestation at Myrtle Beach Resort
A Wisconsin woman has filed a lawsuit against a property owner and a Grand Strand resort, alleging she suffered bed bug bites during her summer vacation. Pamela Hullum, a Milwaukee County resident, claims she was repeatedly bitten by bed bugs while staying at Grand Palms Resort in Myrtle Beach this past May. According to the personal injury lawsuit, these incidents caused her physical harm and psychological distress.
Grand Palms Resort, which offers hotel rooms and condominiums, is primarily located at 1250 U.S. Highway 17 N. in Surfside Beach. However, Hullum’s stay was in unit C2 at 233 Presidential Drive in Myrtle Beach. The complaint, filed Wednesday in Horry County’s Court of Common Pleas, states the unit is operated and maintained by an unidentified owner in conjunction with Plantation Resort Villas IV, doing business as Grand Palms Resort. Both the property owner and the resort company are named as defendants in the case.
The lawsuit alleges that Hullum discovered visible signs of a bed bug infestation during her stay, including bed bugs and black excrement stains on the bed. According to the complaint, the resort and the unit owner were informed of the issue, and subsequent inspections by housekeeping and pest control confirmed the presence of bed bugs.
Hullum claims the negligence of the defendants led to her emotional distress, permanent scarring, and a diminished quality of life. The lawsuit also cites additional damages, including medical expenses and costs related to cleaning and replacing infested belongings. While no specific monetary amount is listed, Hullum seeks compensation for expenses, actual damages, and punitive damages deemed appropriate under the circumstances.
Grand Palms Resort has not yet responded to requests for comment on the lawsuit.
